solitude staring back

neuroses never needle kneel
shaky broken church pew spasmodic goon
gripping the pen again
with jittery fingers and
concrete eyes
trying to grasp the visuals
letting it all sink in
praying for a trampoline cornea
but i’m a sinkhole
i’ve taken on all the rain
and now my beverly hills hill houses
are crumbling into the sea

disc jockey drama
queens stirring in the corner
shop-worn hangnails peering over the edge
the joker stole the aces
and put them in his queue
for later
hazy eyes dripping on ice
@!$%# the swizzlestick use my finger

pigeon-toed pea coat watch cap horizon
freezing summertime mistakes
captain casanova seeks mazel tov open-toed sop
for moonlight cruises with the jackals
there are gleaming lights
and sausage hands
and nobody has a statement to make
that makes any sense

the book is open in my lap
to page three hundred and twenty-two
never thought i’d get this far
not on a desert island like this
shipwrecked lonely paradise
where boats whizz by
moping and groping and mocking
italian b-movie directors passing judgment from wooden easy chairs
sand in my eyes
kicked it
and cold.
