Tort reform -- legislation that aims to reduce medical malpractice suits -- will not cut medical costs and improve health care unless the government addresses the proliferation of unnecessary medical errors that victimize hundreds of thousands of patients every year, says Ruqaiij …
Most theorists agree that blackmail should be illegal; they just can't agree on why. A few days after Letterman's confession, Saul Smilansky, the author of "Ten Moral Paradoxes," said that, in his opinion, what Halderman did wasn't heinous.
The fears of Democrats anxious to pass an unemployment benefits extension were realized yesterday. Dow Jones is reporting that Senate Republicans' plan to stall debate on the bill (H.R.
So once again I find myself on Newsvine, arguing with pro-choicers about abortion. Why? What else can I do? I sure can't agree that aborting a perfectly healthy fetus is okay just because the mother says so.

The shorter version from Peter Beinart: "I like Barack Obama as much as the next liberal, but this is a farce."
The reaction to Michael Moore's new movie, Capitalism: A Love Story, reinforces a suspicion I started having a few years back: that most of us Americans are much better at being movie and TV critics than we are at being political organizers.
Because medicine is now for-profit we have things like "recision," where insurance companies hire people to figure out ways to deny you coverage when you get sick, even though you've been paying into your plan for years.
Wednesday's speech even heralded the coming of "a new insurance exchange—a marketplace where individuals and small businesses will be able to shop for health insurance at competitive prices." Why, more free enterprise—just what we've been missing! Obama continued, " …
Nobody knows anymore what "socialism" even is. It's been beaten out of us by the pervasive forces of stupidity, and now even the socialist that was never a socialist has become a fascist apparently just to make a point.

In his letter to Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, FBI Director Robert Mueller wrote: "Your action in releasing Megrahi is as inexplicable as it is detrimental to the cause of justice. Indeed your action makes a mockery of the rule of law.
This blog gives us ten works of literature that should be kicked out of the canon. Lets say you get to put one of these books back — which is it? Are there any books you'd like to yank from the canon?
Although hailed by Jack Kerouac, William Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg as an exceptionally gifted mind and poet, Gregory Corso is, by comparison, the unsung Beat, never achieving the same renown as the movement's three most celebrated icons.
The social ramifications of gender and sexuality are especially important today. Of all the political issues in the headlines, gay marriage is the only one that is making some people actually want to amend the Constitution.

Firsty is hands down the most refreshing contributor to Newsvine. He debates his positions in such a way that even when one may ultimately disagree with him, they still walk away feeling as if they've learned something. Always respectful to his readers, Firsty is a true asset to the Newsvine community.

True Story behind the war Israel is not telling: Nice work and I appreciated the persistence with which you responded to all comers regardless of blatant bias or in-credulousness.
Anytime anyone criticise Israel of atrocities or misdeeds the defenders are quick to rail back with "anti Semite". I did not see that take place in your commentary. May be some of what's being said about Israeli conduct in this war on Gaza is sinking in.....I certainly hope so. Voices of reason in Israel itself need to rally and crush this vileness toward it's neighbors. We in the US also need to force our leadership to be ashamed of it's record in backing the "modern day Goliath".
Appreciate your work.

Hi again dear friend fristy! Thanks for that last comment of yours. I like the fact that we might be of a totally opposing level sometimes yet still have the decency of executing a clearheaded conversation and changes of ideas instead of hanging with our fangs at each others throats..ROFL!
well, I can see your point and yet I feel that Obama might have something within his being that will not only be coming from a populist's point of few. I deny any assumption that I in anyway think of him as a super human in any meaning. far from that he seem to be a bit more attached to his own flaws and knowledge of his own chances on making mistakes. But that is also why I believe him to be of a more intellectual breeze. He might be from the same wardrobe but it does not mean that he will be the exact same smelly socks (if you catch my drift). What I do know is that what this Hillarious Clinton is doing is not much more then an act on behalf of the show. One must almost be blind to not be able to see how her whole being is unattached with her performance. Her husband was one hell of an actor but at least he had the decency in letting go of the act at some point. Hillarious? Hell no! She plays and will keep on playing even after the fat lady have sung, chipped for air and fallen of the damned stage. I wrote a little something about that point of mine. go in and check it out if you like, I would be honored as usual for any constructive criticism from you. I hope to catch up with you on line some day soon my friend. but until then..keep it up you brilliant scriptural wizard you. Bye for now..LR.

Your last arguement on "The Disintegration of America" was a startling piece of work, only to be expected from a brave and openminded author. Good luck.

I tell you all what, I have several writers whom I feel proud to call Vinefriends. Now firtsy here is definitely one of them. Not only is he an excellent *scribes man. He is also a very careful friend who have often pointed out good articles while stopping in to read ones own essays. I feel it considerably enriching with a person like you here firsty. So thanks for being who you are, and always stay fit and healthy for those memorable lines of scriptures to keep heading our ways.

Firsty provides intelligent, thought-out commentary and articles for Newsvine, while addressing contentious issues with a level-head and calm words. I make a point of reading his comments in-depth as there is often more thought and analysis in one of his sentences than in most other writers' paragraphs.

A true writer in every sense of the word. With an unabridged sense of right and wrong, most assuredly on the FBI watch list, and a true friend against the hebetudinious masses. Read and be aware...or more appropriately beware. Its been a pleasure, and revolution be damned.

Firsty's medicinal reading for me and is instrumental to my ongoing treatment for political tourettes. I am grateful.

firsty brings an intelligent, reasonable, and fearless point of vew to Newsvine, and shows a real talent for dealing with less reasonable debaters by calmly, effectively, and respectfully pointing out misunderstandings. An asset to Newsvine who maintains a high level of discourse, firsty deserves a spot on the watchlist of anyone who is interested in a rational and intelligent point of view.
